Hard Headed Clients
July 18th, 2009I really can’t believe some of these phone calls from some of my ‘you don’t remember me but…’clients.
If you don’t know ‘you don’t remember me but’ clients are the one’s that start the conversation like this,
“Dwayne, you don’t know who this is do you?” and if I’m not used to the sound of their voice or can’t catch their voice then I’ll usually say
“No, I don’t”.
“This is____ I’m (so and so’s friend). I need a perm, bad!”
That’s when I go into detective mode, “when was the last time you had it relaxed?”
Nine times outta ten I get some crazy response like, “the last time you did it”.
Honestly at this point all types of thoughts run through my head like…If I can’t remember you, and you have to describe who you are…and you say I was the last one to do it…how hideous is your head?
That’s usually when I get some type of explanation like “I’ve been in braids for the longest time” and I plan on taking my braids out this weekend and when I do I’ll need a perm and a rinse, bad.”
“Ok, if I were you, I’d get the relaxer first, and then come back in a few weeks and get the rinse, because if you get your rinse first and then get it relaxed, you run the risk of having some color stripped, where the relaxer gets on it. Besides, anybody that knows me, knows I don’t do two chemical services in the same day.”
“I can’t get a relaxer and a rinse at the same time?”
“I’m sure somebody out there will do it for you, but it won’t be me!”
“Ok, well since you won’t do both at the same time, let me call you back to schedule an appointment”
At this point I know as soon as they hang up the phone, they will call around until they find someone who will relax and color their hair the same day!
I also know that after they receive their service, and their hair starts breaking off, they will either blow up my phone up, trying to get on my book to ‘fix the problem’, or they will be going back into braids trying to figure out why their hair is breaking off like crazy!
The only issue I toss and turn with is…will I accept them as a client or not? I work best with clients that take my advice. The one’s that actually listen (if they come in on a regular basis or not) get the best results and are a true representation of my work!
I know I’m my own worse enemy. I have the wisdom and knowledge to help people get what they want, but instead of just working with those that show the most promise, I put on my blue suit with the ‘S’ on the chest and try to save the world!
I guess clients aren’t the only ones that can be hard headed!
